第九十二集《中国功夫》
The Olympic Adventures of the Fuwa Chinese Kung Fu
—Bengbeng, You are no match for my.
—Nine Dragon sword kung fu!
—I stand as straight as a pine tree
—Dad, do you think there will be a Wushu competition in the Olympics?
—Will there be broadswords or straight swords?
—Southern fist and North leg Shao Lin's Wushu is the best
—Dad, What are you singing about?
—This wushu stuff is going to kill me Wu shu is the heritage of China. Many people like it
—Why would somebody invent Wu shu?
—Why is it called Wu shu?
—I can't believe you know nothing about it.
—It was invented by a man with Wu as his family name
—That's not right Professor, It wasn't invented by anybody,
—It's the accumulation of peoples experiences exercising and fighting

—It originated during the hunting period of ancient Chinese society
—The earliest forms of Wu shu were the actions of the fist legs dodging and leaping that primitive peopLelearned to use in hunting
—The sticks stones and other instruments used by the primitives while hunting their quarries gradually became the spear 'sword' and staff in contemporary Wu shu
—During their rest after laboring or after the victory of wars' people would show off their skills from the battlefield or their hunting conquests through dancing.
—Later, this became known as ‘Wu dancing’ Wu means five So there are five dancers?
—Of course not . The first part ‘wu' means martial in Chinese
—Not the word for number five
—There were strict rules for martial dancing Not the way you guys just did it'
—There is an interesting story in a book from the Chun-qiu Period
—When Da Yu was the Yellow Emperor,
—The Miao people revolted often.
—Da Yu couldn't conquer them after several costly expeditions
—Sir I have an idea.
—It is not that our armies lack the proper enthusiasm for war but we are ruling through force,
—Perhaps this is not the best way to manage state affairs.
—We should try another approach At this suggestion Da Wu had his soldiers perform the Wu dance in front of the Miao leaders
—It was also called ‘ganqi’ because the soldiers held shields and broadaxes Astonished by the enormous vigor of martial dancing, the Miao soon pledged allegiance with Yellow emperor
—After watching the martial dancing I think the broadsword is the sharpest of all weapons
—No way, the broadsword has only one cutting edge

—But the straight sword has two So it is sharper
—They both are good examples of the short weapons of China.
—They play different roles in different situations
—That's interesting What are the differences? Please show me
—During the Qin and Han Dynasties, the blade was the most important short weapon in the army.
—And there were many swordsmen in society
—The broadsword's not sharp enough I want a straight sword!
—Okay then Here you go
—In the Western Han Dynasty. in order to resist the Hun. the army had to do battle on horseback
—So the falchion took the place of the straight sword and became the most important weapon in the battlefield
—In the book Shuo Wen Jie Zi, this is the definition for the character of Wu shu.
—The bottom part is ‘stop', and the top part means ‘spear'.
—Put them together and the form the word Wu
—So the true meaning Is to drop the weapons and stop fighting

—Definitely right Good definition Good boys will never fight with others.
—Then why do so many people still practice Wu shu? yeah!
—Because it can strengthen your body and mould your temperament,
—Since the Tang Dynasty, people who were good at it could become officials
—Became officials?
—During the Tang Dynasty period, The system of electing military officials was conducted through Wu shu competitions,
—This greatly promoted the popularity of practicing Wu shu throughout society
—In the Song Dynasty' Wu shu developed into various forms of folk arts.
—It eventually became contemporary Wu shu performance and competition
—Great Great!
—In the Qing Dynasty, the development of Wu shu was stunted'
—The Man-qing regime forbade the practicing of Wu shu throughout society in order to control their subjects
—Many people practicing Wu shu had to form secret societies to carry on training.
—Even under these unfavorable conditions, many famous types of martial arts appeared such as Tai Chi .
—Bagua and Pikua styles of Wu Shu Wu shu is so culturally important,
—I hope that there will be Wu shu competition in the Olympics
—Yes I am sure there will be in the future Wu shu will surely be known and loved by more and more people all over the world I really hope that it can become an official event in the Olympic Games
—Me too. And we have to practice Wu shu from now on
—If there is a chance we can compete After all chance is for those who have prepared
—Spin fist!
—I have great aim!
